<description>Title: Toward Universal V2X Cooperation for VRU Safety: An Infrastructure-Centric Explainable Framework via Vision-Language Models
Author(s): Yunho Jeong
Abstract: Vulnerable Road Users （VRUs） account for more than half of global traffic fatalities, and their safety at urban intersections is structurally constrained by the line-of-sight occlusions that single-vehicle perception cannot resolve. Conventional V2X cooperative perception schemes mitigate this limitation by exchanging raw sensor data or intermediate features, but they impose substantial communication bandwidth requirements and architectural compatibility constraints across heterogeneous vehicle platforms. This thesis proposes the VLM-based Explainable VRU Anticipation （VEVA） framework, an infrastructure-centric pipeline that anticipates the safety state of observed VRU and explains the reasoning behind the prediction in natural language, so that the resulting text can be used as a structured V2X cooperation message. The framework is structured in two phases. In Phase 1, a large-scale teacher VLM is prompted with a four-step chain-of-thought template that decomposes the safety estimation into sub-tasks, producing a reasoning-augmented annotation corpus on top of an existing binary-label dataset. In Phase 2, a student VLM is fine-tuned on this corpus through knowledge distillation, to learning teacher model’s reasoning pattern. On the WatchoutPed benchmark, the resulting student shows the leading performance in the quantitative metrics relative to five pedestrian-anticipation baseline models. These results demonstrate that the framework reliably interprets VRU behavioral intent to anticipate their safety states, while the resulting structured rationale serves as a universal V2X cooperation message that can be interpreted by any language-model-capable receiving vehicle regardless of its underlying architecture. <title>CNN Based Non-linear SerDes Equalizer</title>

<description>Title: CNN Based Non-linear SerDes Equalizer
Author(s): Eve Cha
Abstract: This thesis proposes a CNN-based equalizer to address the performance limitations of conventional equalizers in PAM-4 high-speed wireline receivers under ADC integral nonlinearity (INL). The widely adopted 21-tap feed-forward equalizer (FFE) combined with a 1-tap decision-feedback equalizer (DFE) degrades significantly under severe INL because it cannot adequately model signal-dependent distortion introduced by the ADC. The proposed approach processes raw ADC samples using a compact convolutional neural network that jointly mitigates ADC nonlinearity, inter-symbol interference, and channel impairments, while avoiding heavyweight fully connected layers to keep the implementation suitable for real-time FPGA deployment. Training and MATLAB-based behavioral modeling use reduced-precision fixed-point weights for efficient simulation and hardware alignment. Hardware verification was carried out on an RFSoC platform (Xilinx ZCU111), where the CNN-based receiver path was deployed alongside the conventional FFE+DFE datapath on the same device, sharing identical input samples for a fair, direct bit-error-rate (BER) comparison. MATLAB simulation indicates improved BER relative to the FFE+DFE baseline under INL conditions. Hardware verification on the RFSoC platform confirmed correct implementation of both datapaths at 21 dB and 26 dB channel loss. The RTL was also synthesized in a 28-nm CMOS process using Synopsys Design Compiler in topological mode, and layout floorplans were generated for both the conventional and CNN-based datapaths to compare silicon area and power.|본 논문은 ADC-DSP 기반 PAM-4 고속 유선 수신기에서 ADC의 적분 비선형성(INL)으로 인한 성능 저하 문제를 해결하기 위한 CNN(합성곱 신경망) 기반 이퀄라이저를 제안한다.

<description>Title: Dual Resonance Suppression in Flexible Systems Using Two-Port Position Control with Multi-Encoder Feedback
Author(s): Haeun Yoon

In a two-mass system, elastic coupling between the motor and the load generates resonant modes, and a conventional single-loop controller often suffers from a trade-off between tracking bandwidth and vibration amplification. To address this limitation, the proposed approach employs a coordinate transformation that separates the load port and the motor port, allowing tracking control and vibration suppression to be assigned to different feedback paths. The proposed controller has a cascade structure composed of an inner loop and an outer loop. The inner loop is introduced as a motor-port plant-shaping feedback path that regulates the flexible coordinate defined in the transformed system and damps the resonant dynamics, while the outer loop achieves load-position tracking on the equivalent plant shaped by the inner loop. In this thesis, the motor-port feedback gains are treated as fixed plant-shaping configurations, and the LMI-based optimization is applied to the outer load-position controller for each selected inner-loop configuration. By imposing identical frequency-domain constraints on sensitivity, complementary sensitivity, and control effort, the formulation evaluates how motor-port plant shaping changes the achievable outer-loop tracking bandwidth. Thus, the LMI problem is used as a systematic outer-loop comparison tool rather than as a synthesis method for the inner-loop gains. The control performance is evaluated using the load-position transfer function and a vibration transfer function based on residual spring torque. Frequency-response and root-locus analyses show that the load-port controller mainly determines the low-frequency tracking bandwidth, whereas the motor-port controller primarily improves damping near the resonant frequency with limited influence on low-frequency tracking. These results demonstrate that the proposed TPC structure enables frequency-domain separation of tracking and vibration-suppression roles, leading to practical and reliable performance improvement for flexible two-mass drive systems.
