SCOPUS
Photonic crystal structures have been developed to control the light propa
gations for various engineering applications and fundamental researches. In this
Theses, we study the properties of resonance modes of a CdS nanowire with four
kinds of photonic systems such as a nanowire with a photonic crystal substrate,
a nanowire with a disordered photonic lattice substrate, a nanowire with non-air
hole substrate, and a bare nanowire.
To study the properties of resonances modes, we compare quality factors
of the resonance modes for the four cases of photonic systems. Whereas the
quality factors of resonances modes in the bare nanowire is about 600, those in
the nanowire with non-air hole substrate is about 900 due to reflection from the
substrate. However, in case of the nanowire with a photonic crystal substrate,
the quality factors of resonance modes increase up to 5000 due to lattice constant
effects. In the nanowire with a disordered photonic lattice substrate, the quality
factor reaches 2000, that is the value is in between the nanowire with non-air
hole substrate and a nanowire with a photonic crystal substrate. This property
is caused by optical localization in disorder mediums as proposed by Philip An
derson.
