섹슈얼리티와 폭력의 아이러니 : 1980년대 운동권 여대생의 정치적 주체성 구성에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 글은 1980년대 민주화운동의 역사 전개 과정에서 이른바 몇 개의 변곡점들로 간주되는 1982년 부산 미국문화원 방화 사건, 1986년 부천서 성고문 및 고발 사건, 1989년 방북 사건 각각에서 핵심적인 역할을 수행했던 세 명의 운동권 여대생, 김은숙, 권인숙, 임수경의 증언, 수기, 방북 백서를 운동권 여대생의 정치적 주체성 구성의 측면에서 살펴본다. 이들의 주체화 과정은 당시 그들을 둘러싼 대다수의 타인들에게, 그리고 대타자에 의해 도무지 인정받을 수 없는 자신들의 정치적 실천에 대한 설명을 그러한 타인들에게 전달하는 행위 그 자체로 이루어진다. 또한 인정받지 못한 조건과 그것을 극복하기 위해 수행하는 자기 자신에 대한 설명의 조건에는 운동권 여대생의 젠더와 섹슈얼리티가 포함된다. 무엇보다도 자신들에게 부과되었던 안정적인 젠더와 섹슈얼리티 규범을 파열시키고위반하는, 이들의 ‘위험한’ 정치적 실천에는 필연적으로 그에 대한 정당한 설명으로 자기서사가 요청될 수밖에 없었다. 김은숙, 권인숙, 임수경의 자기 서사 텍스트들은 그러한1980년대의 운동권 여대생의 정치적 주체성을 징후적이면서도 구체적인 방식으로 드러내며, 가시화되지 않은 더 많은 운동권 여대생 주체를 규명하는 기획의 가능성을 암시한다. This article examines the self-narrative texts of three female college student activists in the undongkwon group, namely Kim Eun-sook, Kwon In-sook, and Lim Su-kyung, who played crucial roles in the significant incidents considered as turning points during the 1980s pro-democracy movement: the 1982 Busan USIS Cultural Center arson incident, the 1986 Bucheon sexual harassment and accusation incident, and the 1989 North Korea visit. The formation of political subjectivity among the female student activists engaged in those three incidents involves the act of giving narrative accounts of their political actions which were utterly unacknowledged by society at the time. Additionally, gender and sexuality revolve around the parameters of female activists’ subjectivities being acknowledged, given that their ‘risky and dangerous’ political actions could inevitably disrupt the social norms of gender and sexuality imposed upon them.
