Protein Disorder, Gene Regulation and Omics Lab

Protein Disorder, Gene Regulation and Omics Lab cover image

Biological systems span multiple scales — from molecules to organisms — where complexity emerges through the interactions of countless components. In our lab, we are fascinated by the fundamental principles governing proteins and DNA, the two molecular pillars of life: DNA stores genetic information, while proteins execute and regulate nearly all cellular processes. Our current research focuses on two central players: transcription factors, the DNA-binding proteins that control gene expression, and intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), protein segments that challenge the classical structure–function paradigm. For this we develop and apply state-of-the-art omics technologies combining molecular biology techniques, including CRISPR-based gene editing and next-generation sequencing, with computational tools. This approach allows us explore DNA and protein function on a genome-wide scale, revealing new insights into gene regulation and molecular specificity.Through our work, we aim to uncover general principles of molecular function and evolution — insights that may ultimately inspire new therapeutic strategies and biotechnological innovations.
