이러한 시스템들은 미래 의료 기술 발전과 환자들의 치료 성과 향상에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대됩니다.|The rapid evolution of healthcare demands has driven the development of advanced technologies for monitoring the physiological signals of the body. Especially, soft bioelectronics have emerged as a promising alternative to overcome the limitations of traditional rigid material-based devices in healthcare applications. Soft bioelectronic sensors leverage their intrinsic flexibility, relatively high biocompatibility compared to the metals or plastics, and adaptability to complex human body curvatures, enabling long-term biosignal monitoring, adequate therapeutic interventions, and improved patient comfort. These features facilitate soft bioelectronic sensor as essential components of next-generation healthcare systems, offering solutions to critical challenges such as foreign body reaction of implantable devices and individual treatment based on the detection of biological signals. A particularly promising subset of soft bioelectronic sensors is 1-dimensional (1D) structured soft sensors. These 1D soft bioelectronic sensors provide unique advantages, including lightweight structure, excellent flexibility, and compatibility with fiber-based systems. Their thin geometries enable seamless integration into complex biological environments and facilitate minimally invasive surgeries. Moreover, they have the potential to minimize foreign body reactions due to the tiny surface area of the sensor. Consequently, advancing biocompatible fiber-based electrodes and sensors is essential. This dissertation focuses on the development and applications of the 1D soft bioelectronic sensors, highlighting their potential in healthcare monitoring and treatment. Here, the first topic (Chapter III) presents different approaches for fabricating conductive fiber electrodes via a chemical reduction method known as in-situ formation. The contribution of this work lies in the fabrication process that exclusively uses harmless materials, avoiding the use of toxic substances found in previous studies. Additionally, various parameters related to the fabrication process of conductive fiber electrodes have been systematically investigated. These conductive fiber electrodes were utilized in resistive or capacitive soft sensors, highlighting their potential in diverse healthcare applications. The second topic (Chapter IV) introduces a versatile electronic suture system that integrates strain sensing with on- demand drug delivery capability. The electronic suture, composed of a conductive fiber scaffold and a thermoresponsive polymer shell layer, utilizes Joule heat generated by the electrical current flowing through the conductive fiber scaffold to release the drug contained within the polymer shell. This system is directly sutured onto the wound site, where it monitors the degree of wound opening. Subsequently, it releases the drug, thereby accelerating the wound healing process. The third topic (Chapter V) describes a fiber-based bioelectronic pH-sensing suture designed for monitoring wound healing process. By tracking changes in pH levels, a critical biomarker of wound health, the pH-sensing suture enables early detection of infection and healing progress assessment. Furthermore, the continuous and reliable monitoring capability of the bioelectrical suture was demonstrated through in-vivo tests conducted on mouse models. The final topic (Chapter VI) presents a suture-type electroceutical system that is directly sutured onto inflamed tissue sites to modulate inflammatory responses through wireless electrical stimulation. This electroceutical suture is based on a conductive fiber architecture integrated with an inductive coupling-based wireless power transfer system, enabling stable electrical stimulation without the need for external wiring. The device is directly sutured onto the target tissue, where it delivers localized and selective stimulation to reduce inflammatory responses and promote tissue recovery. This approach demonstrates the potential of a next-generation therapeutic platform capable of providing effective and long-term treatment. The various 1D soft bioelectronic sensors studied in this dissertation demonstrate high flexibility, outstanding electrical performance, and high biocompatibility, providing potential for practical applications in bioelectronics and medical fields. These systems are anticipated to contribute significantly to advancing healthcare technologies and improving patient outcomes. |
