This thesis details the design and implementation of a 32-Gbps transmitter with a configurable 3-tap feed forward equalizer (FFE) for high-speed wireline interfaces. First, a baseline 32-Gbps transmitter was designed and implemented in a 28-nm CMOS process to establish a wideband architecture. The transmitter integrates a resistive feedback inverter with an approximately 1 kΩ feedback resistance to extend the bandwidth by reducing both the output RC time constant and the Miller effect. Furthermore, a programmable impedance matching circuit is implemented to minimize signal reflection and address process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations. Building on this baseline design, a configurable 3-tap FFE architecture is then designed to mitigate channel attenuation and inter symbol interference (ISI). This architecture introduces variable equalization coefficients for the main, pre, and post cursors. Additionally, a duty cycle corrector (DCC) and a quadrature error corrector (QEC) are designed to resolve multi-phase clock mismatches in the high-speed clocking network. This thesis details the design of the integrated transmitter and clock correction circuits. Simulations demonstrate that the DCC and QEC effectively compensate for clock distortions under an 8GHz clock frequency. Specifically, the DCC corrects the duty cycle to within a margin of ±0.5°, and the QEC compensates for input phase errors ranging from 64° to 108° with an accuracy of ±1°. Operating from a 0.9V supply, the overall transmitter consumes 28.64 mW, corresponding to a power efficiency of 0.895 pJ/bit. The system verification confirms that the structure achieves a 32-Gbps data rate with an improved eye opening, demonstrating a viable path toward highly integrated, high speed wireline transceivers.
