Studying principles of optics and photonics to develop microscale imaging technology for clinical and biological research applications. Biophotonics is a fascinating area of study that looks at how light interacts with living things. At COBI Lab, we explore basic principles of optics, build imaging systems, and make image processing algorithms to survey light-matter interactions at the level of living organs, tissues, and individual cells. We develop cutting-edge optical technology for "snapshot-like imaging" of both the intensity and the phase of the light backscattered from biotissues. To these data, we apply computational methods and AI solutions to overcome "seemingly fundamental" limitations of optical imaging systems. Our ultimate goal is to demonstrate the efficacy of such hardware and software advancements in clinical science and physiology, eventually translating them to real-world applications.
