Abstract
Post-synthetic modification (PSM) of metal-organic materials (MOMs) such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and metal-organic polyhedra (MOPs) allows the introduction of the desired functionalities while maintaining their framework structures. However, the majority of organic reactions applied in PSM requires additional reactive dangling groups. Thus, the structural complexity after PSM renders structure analyses more difficult. Herein, the post-synthetic conversion of phenyl C-H bonds into C-C bonds via electrophilic aromatic substitutions in MOMs is proposed. Due to the higher electron density of C compared to that of H, crystallographic visualization of this process was possible. The resulting properties of the MOMs after the PSM will be discussed.
