Abstract
A Semimetal to semiconductor transition in 2D layered PtSe2 nanosheets was theoretically predicted with first-principle calculations using density functional theory, and the enhancement of thermopower was demonstrated experimentally using a bilayer nanosheet. However, the thermopower enhancement and tunable power factor was obtained by the back-gate modulation with high gate voltages. In this work, we report on our observations of the enhancement of thermoelectric power factor in ultrathin single-crystalline PtSe2 nanosheets based on the surface charge transfer doping. The 2D layered PtSe2 were obtained by mechanical exfoliation on doped Si substrates with 300 nm of thermally oxidized layer (SiO2) for device fabrication. The temperature dependence of electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient were measured before and after the surface doping. Further description of the tunable and enhanced thermoelectric power factor will be discussed in detail.
