Abstract
Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body and is the leading natural material for many biomedical applications. Collagen has been used widely as a scaffold material due to its biodegradability, biological compatibility, and mechanical properties. Conventional approaches to produce wet spun collagen fibers involve corrosive solvents and/or toxic cross-linking agents, which are unfavorable for producing cosmetic and biomedical applications. In this study, the pure collagen regenerated fibers (RCF) were produced by wet spinning using green solvent system with non-toxic cross-linking method. The morphology and physicochemical properties of RCF were studied with various techniques and the RCF are expected to utilize for various biomedical and health care applications, such as wound dressing and facial mask materials.
