Abstract
The alignment of CNTs and formation of stable dispersion is necessary to optimize the properties of technologically useful material, e.g., reinforced composites, electronic components and optical materials, so considerable effort has been expended in finding ways of forming stable dispersions of well-aligned CNTs. Mold casting method was employed to produce conductive polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS)/multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) composites, while high magnetic fields (10 T) was used to induced MWCNT alignment within PDMS matrix, and it was determined that the concentration and alignment direction of MWCNTs plays the most important roles in determining the electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity was increased as increase of MWCNT concentration from 0.5 to 3.0 wt%. Based on the electrical conductivity of pure PDMS materials, the addition of 3.0 wt% CNTs with treated with high magnetic field approximately produced an 8 order of magnitude increase.
