Abstract
This paper is concerned with handoff mechanisms in wireless cellular networks that employ MIMO technology. To achieve optimal performance during handoff, the mobile receiver can be linked to antennas from both the base stations of the adjacent cells. Then the handoff is termed multicell handoff. The basic idea is that in a region know as the multicell handoff region, the mobile terminal communicates simultaneously with multiple base stations. The simulation results demonstrate that the multicell handoff provides an improvement of average throughput in the high spatial correlation case. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH Berlin Heidelberg.
